IMAGINARY exhibition at the FME

We participate in the exhibition IMAGINARY, A MATHEMATICAL SYMPHONY that you can see from September 22nd to December 17th, 2021 in the hall of the Faculty of Mathematics and Statistics of the Polytechnic University of Catalonia.
 

This exhibition is an adaptation of the exhibition Imaginary of the Institute of Mathematical Research of Oberwolfach (Germany) promoted in 2011 by the Real Sociedad Matemática Española.

It is part of the activities of the 50th anniversary of the UPC and arrives renewed in the FME with the incorporation of more than three new spaces:

  • SCIENCE OF FICTION. It is a specific area FME-UPC where scientific advances in artificial intelligence and robotics are presented that show how close the science of fiction is. Carried out in collaboration with IRI, CREB, BSC,IDEAI and GEOMAP 
  • MUSIC AND MATHEMATICS. Explaining the modelling and creation of a new musical instrument.
  • MMACA SPACE. Two kaleidoscopes of the kaleidoscope are exposed in the first place, which allow the visualization of archimethetic polyedrons and their dual ones.

This sum of themes and alliances brings added value to the exhibition, which aims to bring the fascinating world of mathematics closer to citizens, as well as generate a space for learning and mathematical experimentation for secondary and high school teachers and students.

Imaginary,a mathematical symphony invites us to explore the relationship between mathematics and art. Mathematical melody is expressed through multiple voices, art, music, engineering, science and humanities.

The experience "Imaginary, a mathematical symphony" does not end at the end of the visit, can continue in the classroom. A lot of material gathered on this page is available. You will find:
