Kirigami

Wednesday, November 18, 2020 at 6 p.m.

by Enric Brasó

Kirigami is a variation of origami or papyroflexia in which, in addition to folding paper, it is allowed to cut it. As origami is a world full of great artists and surprising works many of them with mathematical content.

In this workshop we will present a few examples, simple to make, of these constructions (fractals, pop-up cards, impossible figures, puzzles) and we will accompany those who want it in their construction step by step.

To make the constructions that we will propose, you will need to prepare 6 sheets of cardboard or cardboard (300 g/m2 or more). Although it is also possible to make them with normal paper of 80 g/m2 then the figures are not supported. The drawing sheets serve perfectly.

We will make the constructions step by step, indicating the cuts and folds from the blank sheet. Templates, therefore, are not essential, but you can download and print them.

    • 6 A4 size cards, approximately 300g/m
    • Scissors
    • ruler
    • pencil
    • A CD you don't use
